The great singer Antonis Kalogiannis died.

Antonis Kalogiannis, an artist who was noted for his unique voice, passed away at the age of 81.

The news was released through social networks by his relatives, according to ERT.

Antonis Kalogiannis climbed by first on stage in 1966. In the same year, Mikis Theodorakis discovered it and gave his first concert in the then Soviet Union and then in Greece.

During the colonels’ dictatorship of 1967, he went abroad with Maria Farantouri and, creating a folk orchestra, began concerts of a purely political nature, thus contributing to the fight against the junta.

In 1970 Mikis Theodorakis was released and with him they will give more than 500 concerts in Europe, America and Australia, making known the political situation that prevailed in our country at that time.

In 1972 Antonis Kalogiannis returned to Greece and sang in various bars in Plaka.

Special moments in his career are the recording of “Spiritual Invasion” by Angelos Sikelianos and “State of Siege” in 1970, together with Maria Farantouri, as well as “Sun and Time / Averoff Surface” in 1975.

The 80s began with an album (Mimi Plessa – Dimitris Christodoulou “Neighborhood Songs” / 1980), which ended a whole decade.

With his next album (“Ta simerina” / 1981), Antonis Kalogiannis, returns to the love song and consolidates himself as a singer, now erotic.

With the gold (50,000 sales) “Today” by Spyros Papavassiliou and Lakis Teazis, Kalogiannis opened the most commercial decade of his career and with a song – a great success, “My beautiful Katerina”, which was followed by the following years, and other great successes, where its title made reference to feminine names.

After the great success of “My beautiful Katerina”, the next three years were followed by three different works of hers, her participation in the album by Stavros Kougioumetzis (“The world is getting smaller” / 1982), where she performed the excellent, homonymous , the songs of Dimitris Lagios and Fontas Ladis, who sang on their joint album “Here we were born” (1983) and their participation (along with Dimitris Mitropanos, Dimitris Kontolazos, Katerina Stanisi, Elpida and others) on the album by Takis Mousafiris (“Another day” / 1984). I would say that this triennium was the sometimes necessary “break”, before “Mikra erotika”, the album of his collaboration with Mario Tokas.

Antonis Kalogiannis’ collaboration with Mario Tokas, and in fact, with a gold record (50,000 sales) (“Small erotic”), two greatest hits, with lyrics by Sarantis Alivizatos, and a moving love song in poetry by Giannis Ritsos .

Antonis Kalogiannis, with this work, has now launched himself as an erotic singer with the famous and beloved “Annoula tou chionia” & “I love you like May’s laugh” (in duet with Marinella), but he also performed the shocking “I don’t cry” by Giannis Ritsos when we have the information.

The culmination of the interpretive erotic aspect of Kalogiannis is found in the mid-1985s, with the album “And where you say happiness”, with music by Alexis Papadimitriou and Takis Mousafiris, where with the song of the same title (to the music of Alexis Papadimitriou and lyrics by Roni Wise) also made the last personal gold album (50,000 sales) of his career.

Along with the great success of “Eftychia”, the beautiful “Mou ha tase Anna” was heard, with music by Kostas Hatzis, where he performed it as a duet with Marinella.

In 1997 he released his last studio album. Although – except for one, two songs (“San ta patolika” etc.) that were heard – they did not bring great success again, it is worth recording this discography of his erotic repertoire.

Throughout the 1990s he performed, performing one or two songs, on several more albums by his colleagues and songwriters, and his last solo debut took place in the late 1990s. “Angels Stories” album with music by Giannis Dimitras.

Since then, he will be heard again in just two songs, since his participation in the successful live album (gold of 25,000 sales), a tribute to Grigori Bithikotsi, “For Grigoris” in 2002.

Antonis Kalogiannis recorded more than 20 personal albums and in so many others he has participated, while he has also sung many songs for theater and television.

The last record is in 2005 a double edition of multiple collections by the artist himself with hits, from “Open the window”, “Annoula de la Nieve” and “And where you say Happiness”, to “Do you like Greece” and “Ortsa ta pania”, but also versions known as “Dance with me” and “Loneliness”.

In 2007 the box “I continued traveling my life – 40 years Antonis Kalogiannis (UNIVERSAL) was released, which anthologizes the most important and important songs that Kalogiannis sang throughout his musical career”.
