The commotion has been caused by the revelation that in Serres, in the Lithotopos area, near Lake Kerkini, there was an illegal nursing home, in which 11 elderly people lived in miserable conditions.

The case was revealed when an elderly inmate was seen circulating in Lithotopos in a nightgown and appeared lost. The pharmacist who saw her immediately notified the police.

The police arrived at the rudimentary nursing home where they found that on the one hand it had been operating since August 31 as a shelter for the elderly and people with mobility problems without having the required permit, and on the other hand the living conditions of the elderly were miserable.

The police, after arresting the person responsible, notified the Municipality of Heraklion, which sent the social worker and in turn notified the Prosecutor, who gave the order to investigate the exact living conditions of the elderly.

A search of the hostel’s premises found that 10 people, 3 men and 7 women, aged 47 to 88, were staying for a fee. Likewise, 339 medication tablets were found and seized, for which the required prescriptions did not exist. In addition, measures were taken to prevent and limit the spread of the coronavirus.

The prisoners are in poor condition as their living conditions are tragic. The elderly were taken in EKAB ambulances to Serres hospital to be examined, while the Prosecutor’s Office ordered the closure of the space.

The detainee, with the file against him for the infractions of the report, the violation of the disease prevention measures and the legislation on drugs, will be brought before the Prosecutor’s Office of the Serres Court of First Instance.
