French authorities have located a pack of seven wolves that escaped from a wildlife park during the weekend floods in southern France. The special rangers will try to catch them tomorrow.
These wolves were born in captivity and cannot hunt. They escaped from Alpha Wildlife Park, about 50 miles[80 km]of Nice, when the floods destroyed their enclosure.
Eric Ansan, the director of the State Biodiversity Service of the regiontold Reuters that tomorrow the rangers will try to catch them, after throwing darts at them with a hypnoticand take them back to the park. He clarified that neighbors are not in danger, because wolves are used to the presence of people, but they should not try to approach them.
“These wolves are not afraid of humans, unlike really wild wolves, they will not try to escape. They have never been aggressive, but there is a risk if someone tries to catch them.” They are still wild animals, “he stressed.
Ansan also said that many people reported seeing wolves unlikely to leave the area. He even explained that in the past, when other wolves escaped from natural parks, they just came back after a while alone because they couldn’t find food in the wild.
“They are used to being fed,” he said.
