An elderly man was found unconscious after a fire broke out in a Serres home.
The fire that broke out for an unknown cause, in the house where the 82-year-old man lived, in the Gonimos settlement in the municipality of Sintiki, Serres, was the cause of his death. At the time of the fire, firefighters rushed in with 11 firefighters and 5 vehicles where they located the unfortunate dead man.
As the president of the local Gonimos community, Panagiotis Maikopoulos, said on infonews24.gr: “his son and grandson tried to get him out, but he didn’t come out and I say so from what I heard. The door closed and unfortunately they couldn’t get it out. The fire brigade, the police and the EKAB came, they did what they could, but unfortunately the man disappeared. The whole town is upset. “What happened is tragic.”
