With its new lighting, it will shine tonight Acropolis, scattering some of its radiation around the world, which will be broadcast live around the world. The work to improve the lighting of the Holy Rock will be carried out in the presence of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, of the prime minister Kyriakou Mitsotaki, from the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina mendoni and the president of the Onassis Foundation, Antonis S. Papadimitriou, who will attend Pnyx.

Under the full moon -almost- the Rock, the Walls, the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheum, the Theater of Dionysus, the Stoa of Eumenes and the Dionysian Sanctuary will be illuminated again, the more monuments will win ” shine “for the first time: the Thrasyllos monument, the Columns of the Sponsors, the Asclepieion and the Caves of Apollo and Aglavros / Hourglass, as well as the Sanctuary of Aphrodite.
For the first time, the lighting distinguishes the monuments of the Holy Rock both from the walls and between them, highlighting their totality, but also the volume and geometry of each monument from all possible points of view. Marbles whiter than ever they reflect every aspect, every geometric shape, every natural material, emphasizing the relief of the decoration of each monument.
The study for the lighting of the world heritage monument, carried out by the lighting designer Eleftheria Deko, was not limited to the aesthetic part, but includes the significant improvement of existing infrastructure modernizing the electrical installation and the lighting automation and control system. This is the first of a series of projects carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Sports with the aim of completely modernizing the infrastructure and services provided by the Acropolis, with a donation and execution by the Onassis Foundation.
