Political events in Libya are catastrophic. The internationally recognized head of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Saraj, announced that he was withdrawing his resignation “to avoid a political vacuum.”
TO 16 of September Saraj had announced his intention to hand over power until the end of october.
«“I refused to resign, something I wanted to do before the end of October this year, in response to persistent internal and external demands, to avoid a political vacuum.”he said, according to the Al-Hadath radio and television network.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Libyan Supreme Council, Khalid Misri, and the Tripoli-based parliament asked Saraj to postpone his resignation until a new presidential council is elected.
German Foreign Minister Haiko Maas also made the same appeal to Saraj.
In announcing his resignation at the end of October, the Libyan Prime Minister, since March 2016, had clarified that it expects the completion of the work of the negotiating committee and the establishment of a new Presidential Council by that date.
