“Emotions at work take second place, but we are human beings and we are affected,” George Miaoulis, Samos fire chief, father and himself, who found the two children dead, told SKAI.
The two kids, Aris and Claire, had just finished school and were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The place is full of straits that lead to the beach and there are many houses in ruins. The children had chosen to sit on a ladder when a nearby building collapsed. In fact, the boy’s father, who is a journalist, was near the scene, Miaoulis said.

“From their suitcases that were on the stairs we understood that they noticed the earthquake and probably got up… It was a small stretch, 2.5 to 3 meters.
