The race started with Hamilton and Boots off to a good start, while Ricciardo battled Ferstappen for 3rd place with the Dutch Red Bull driver coming out as the winner. However, an accident involving Saint, who fell through the barriers, and Stroll triggered a safety car.
Later, the world champion learned that he had received a 10-second penalty for two different infractions in an initial simulation before the start of the race when he was coming out of the pits. So after changing his tires, he was in eleventh position. Hamilton was slowly climbing, but protesting against his team’s chosen strategy.
At the same time, Boots was firmly in first place, followed by Ferstappen. The British Mercedes driver finally managed to get to 3rd place, when several drivers went into the pits to change tires.
Until the end of the race, the Finnish driver maintained a safety gap with the Dutchman, scoring a faster lap and comfortably crossed the checkered flag with Hamilton behind. Racing Point’s Peres came in fourth, while Ricciardo remained in fifth, despite the 5-second penalty he received.
