A bogus post on Tik Tok sparked outbreaks of Roma incidents across much of the country on Friday night, following the murder of an 18-year-old Roma by a 64-year-old man in Messina.
According to the president of the Romani Federation, Efthymi Dimitriou, after the preventive detention of the 64-year-old man, a post on Tik Tok falsely claimed that the man was released after his apology.
This was the spark for the outbreak of tension, as hundreds of angry gypsies in many parts of the country took to the streets, lit fires, blocked roads and asked the Greek justice not to fall in love with the 64-year-old man, who shot him to 18 when found inside his property.
Unknown persons caused particular incidents late on Friday afternoon near the Agia Sofia settlement, where the Roma live.
According to information from GRTimes, unknown persons called the firefighters for an alleged fire that broke out near the settlement, however, when two fire trucks, accompanied by a patrol, went to the specific place, they were attacked with stones and other objects, resulting in damage to the three vehicles.
The stones were aimed not only at the vehicles, but also at the firefighters on board.
Shots were fired in the Vlychos Megaron camp and three policemen were injured and taken to hospital, but their lives are not in danger.
Episodes in Katerini and Aspropyrgos
According to the same information, similar events occurred in the area of Katerini and Aspropyrgos and are related to the events that occurred in Messina, with the murder of an 18-year-old gypsy by a 63-year-old man in the courtyard of the latter’s house.
Serious incidents occurred in the afternoon on the Patras-Corinth national highway, near Zevgolatio, with angry gypsies demanding justice for the death of the 18-year-old and exemplary punishment for the 63-year-old.
They broke down cars in Lamia
Things got tough around 9pm on Friday night in Lamia because of the assembled gypsies who attacked passing cars at the roundabout in the Lamia Exposition area with stones and iron.
According to the LamiaReport report, two cars were severely attacked, one with stones and the other with iron beams, resulting in broken windows and body damage. In fact, a small child in a car was traveling in a car.
The enraged Roma attacked two other vehicles before disbanding to avoid police intervention. During their escape, they damaged the kiosk in front of the Lamia Court of Appeal.
