The former mayor of Marathon, Elias Psinakis, offered a long apology to the investigator who handles the investigation into the deadly Mati fire, who was released on bail of 20,000 euros.
The former mayor of Marathon, who faces charges of misdemeanor, through a memorandum but also answering the investigator’s questions, according to information, affirmed that all measures had been taken to prevent fires, that the evacuation of the Municipality was never requested and in every case for everything was done on the basis of what was legally prescribed.
As Mr. Psinakis said upon leaving the investigation office: “I had eight questions that needed to be answered legally and personally. These topics are not about the deadly fire, but about what we had done before as a municipality. “I realized that the researcher is very knowledgeable and that we will have rapid developments.”
His attorney Alexandros Lykourezos stated that: “We have submitted a 42-page memorandum with 31 relevant documents that contradict all parts of the indictment. The apology was comprehensive and we believe there is no evidence of guilt.
For his part, Elias Psinakis’s lawyer, Dimitris Kousouris, stated that: Mr. Psinakis with his testimony served the truth and only the truth. Basically, we have contributed to the work of the researcher, who is extremely western.
It is recalled that Elias Psinakis is among 20 people in total (executives of the Local Government, Fire Department, etc.), against whom a criminal process has been initiated with a degree of fault, as the case may be, for arson due to negligence, Wrongful Death and Wrongful Death.
Ilias Psinakis’s apology to researcher Athanasios Marneris began shortly before 10 a.m. and ended after about 4 hours.
In the following days, Evangelos Bournous and Rena Dourou, among others, have been summoned by the investigator in charge of the case.
