Possible communication Mitsotaki – Erdogan: “Sultan” stuns Europe with his “assholes” – Newsbomb – News

With the possibility of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis speaking by phone with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, one of the most critical weeks for national affairs begins, four days before the EU Summit.

Sanctions for Turkey remain on the “table” if it does not change its behavior even at the last minute. At the same time, it seems that contacts are now a matter of hours. at the level of ambassadors of Greece – Turkey, which will continue their exploratory conversations.

At the same time, the government is intensifying its diplomatic pressure.

Today, in the EU Council of Ministers Nikos Dendias will hold talks with the foreign ministers, taking into account the list drawn up by Josep Borrell with the measures against Ankara.

Measures mainly of a financial nature related to the operation of banks, funds for accession procedures, but also similar sanctions that will financially affect Erdogan, who is facing bankruptcy due to the depreciation of the Turkish pound. However, there is also the possibility of capital control, if Turkey’s economic decline continues.

The exploratory contacts are “blocked”, although it is not excluded that a Mitsotaki-Erdogan telephone communication takes place before them to seal that the dialogue between the two countries will continue, without clashing with the offensive actions of Ankara.

The government considers that the Turkish president acts in accordance with his interests and that his de-escalation measures, such as the return of Oruc Reis to the port of Antalya, are pretentious. And the Europeans have dizzy from his constant “assholes”.

Erdogan is sometimes in favor of dialogue and once defender of the interests of his people threatening “gods and demons”.

Of course, Erdogan now seems like a different person, as the European Leaders Summit approaches, during which the sanctions against Turkey are expected to be decided.

Few in the government believe that exploratory contacts will give a “green” light to an agreement on the only difference we have with Turkey, the delimitation of maritime zones.

It seems that a possible appeal to the Court in The Hague is gaining points.

And this is because the Turks want to show that they are extending the claims agenda in the quiver of irrational demands. Their objective is then to show the Turkish people that only they were victorious.

The role of the US

In the coming days, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected to visit Thessaloniki and Souda, with a possible meeting with the Greek prime minister in Crete. The United States wants to appear to be playing a special role in reducing tensions between Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus (countries visited by the US Secretary of State) to show, in the run-up to the presidential elections, that President Trump triumphed and solved the problem by imposing the politics of realism.

Athens, however, is vertical and the condition it sets for continued dialogue with Turkey is that the Turkish leadership stop its crime.

Furthermore, Nikos Dendias in an interview with “Naftemporiki” explains that a dialogue cannot be maintained in the current circumstances: “CFor there to be meaningful dialogue, challenges and threats must stop. It cannot be said that I am willing to sit at the dialogue table ‘and at the same time violate the sovereignty and sovereign rights of your interlocutor. This de facto denies something that Mr. Tsavousoglu often mentions: that Turkey is ready for an unconditional dialogue.

A substantial dialogue will take place on the basis of international law and good neighborly relations. No challenges or threats. It is not legal for Turkey to make the exercise of sovereign rights a precondition for dialogue.

Whenever there are indications of a sincere desire to start a dialogue, with no apparent communication gimmicks, we are absolutely ready to talk.

On the other hand, we do the same with all our neighbors and we want the same with Turkey.».

Regarding the possibility of an appeal before The Hague, the Chancellor clarifies that “the appeal before The Hague presupposes that the parties have signed a joint declaration for the referral of a matter to the IGC. that is, they have agreed on the jurisdiction of the court and what exactly will be judged. I remind you that Turkey has not accepted this, unlike our country, which has indicated its willingness to refer the matter to The Hague, if necessary. Our dispute with Turkey concerns the delimitation of the continental shelf and the EEZ and this has long been the subject of exploratory contacts. Unfortunately, we see a persistent attempt by Turkey to unilaterally raise issues undermining these contacts even before they are restarted. A skeptical observer would say that Turkey seems to focus on a blame game, rather than finding peaceful solutions. But I hope this is not the case».
