US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in Chania to visit the US base in Souda with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The American Chancellor is staying at Mr. Mitsotakis’s parental home and, of course, the security measures are draconian. As can be seen in the video on the flashnews.gr website, strong police forces, but also members of Mike Pompeo’s personal security, created a large caravan yesterday during the arrival of the US Chancellor to Crete.

It is recalled that Mike Pompeo arrived in Greece yesterday, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Defense, Mike Crezio. In Thessaloniki they met with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Deputy Minister Christos Dimas, while they signed the technology agreement between the United States and Greece.
Soon after, Mike Pompeo and his wife, Susan, traveled to Chania, where they were greeted in the late afternoon by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his wife, Mareva.
According to the local website flashnews.gr, an invulnerable safety net has been created in the areas where Mr. Pompeo will move, which includes strong ELAS forces that have blocked the roads through which the US Chancellor will pass, as well as his area. Kyriakos Mitsotakis parental home, where he will be accommodated and dined.
A total of 15 vehicles and three motorcycles follow the US Secretary of State:
Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Mike Pompeo will visit the military installations at Souda Base today and then at 11:20 a.m., an extended meeting of delegations will take place at the 115th Battle Wing. Immediately afterwards, statements will be made to the media.
At 1:15 pm, Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Pompeo will have a working lunch at the Prime Minister’s parental home. In the afternoon (5:00 p.m.), the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State of the United States will visit the Aptera archaeological site in the presence of the Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni.
From the Greek side, the meetings of the two men will be attended by Foreign Ministers Nikos Dendias, Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Chief of Staff Konstantinos Floros and the director of the Prime Minister’s Diplomatic Office, Ambassador Eleni Sourani.
