Stiffness of emergency shutdown with the goal of opening schools on January 11, announced Stelios Petsas.

The Government spokesperson announced that from tomorrow at 06:00 in the morning and until January 11 also at 06:00 hours, the operation of all activities and services that were gradually allowed before Christmas will be suspended.

Specifically, the click away in stores, the operation of bookstores, hairdressers, nail care services, KTEO and hunting and fishing activities is stopped, while the traffic ban returns from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

At the same time, the churches will be closed again, while the Epiphany will not be sanctified.

“We will stay at home these days and on January 11 we will return to the current situation with our schools open,” said Mr. Petsas in his message.

The full statement of the government representative in detail:

Happy birthday and a happy new year to everyone!

Thanks to the responsibility of all of us, the epidemiological situation in Greece has improved and today it is clearly better than in many other European countries.

However, new cases are still high and the pressure on the National Health System continues. Our hospitals continue to treat large numbers of patients. Unfortunately, around 2,500 of our peers spent Christmas in Covid beds, while more than 400 are still in Intensive Care Units.

This data forces us to remain vigilant, doing everything possible to further reduce the spread of the coronavirus in our country.

Especially now that the hope of the vaccine is not a wish or an expectation. But the reality, in progress.

That is why we are “playing defense” with all the necessary measures to stop the pandemic. And we are going to the counterattack, with the operation “Freedom” for vaccination.

When it comes to advocacy, we all know the importance of protecting our lives and the lives of those we love. We also know how difficult and slow recovery is, in the face of the rapid deterioration that occurs when we relax. And it is necessary that what we all build together, with effort and sacrifice, over a period of many months, not be overthrown by the relaxation of a few days.

Therefore, it is imperative that we do what we can to improve the epidemiological situation in the country. So that we can gradually return to a form of normality. And, first of all, to allow our children to return to school.

To this end, we are intensifying our efforts in the crucial first week of 2021.

From tomorrow, Sunday, January 3 and at 6:00 in the morning, until 6:00 in the morning on Monday, January 11, we will stay at home again, since the operation of all activities and services that are gradually allowed before Christmas.

Specifically, “click away” delivery in commercial stores, the operation of bookstores, hairdressers, nail care services, KTEO and hunting and fishing activities are stopped.

The travel ban reverts to the strictest schedules, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., with the sole exception of employees and those in need of medical assistance.

Our churches will remain closed to the faithful and there will be no sanctification of the open air waters on the day of the Epiphany.

So, starting tomorrow and for a week, we make another effort. It’s worth doing, as a precaution, as we may all have relaxed on vacation. So we stay home again.

Give a big break to front-line heroes fighting coronavirus.

To protect our lives, the lives of our neighbors and our own people, all of us.

The objective is to arrive, safely, on January 11, at the best possible epidemiological situation.

And so, as of January 11, ring the bell again in all the country’s schools.

Restore the lifelong learning process. Children to get rid of the psychological burden of this entire period. May our teachers and professors meet again with their function.

And students of all levels to return safely to their desks. In its natural space. In your second home. Together with the teachers and their classmates.

We stay home these days and on January 11 we return to the current situation with our schools open. The new gradual restart of economic and social activity will be guided by the evolution of epidemiological data. And always, of course, complying with the protection measures required by the circumstances.

It is up to us to succeed. And we will do it with unity, responsibility and discipline. All together!

Happy New Year!
