Petsas to SKAI: No new measures will be announced – Store hours extension

No new measures will be announced today, government spokesman Stelios Petsas told SKAI.

As he explained, the measures we are implementing now are too many. “Constantly burdening the population and failing to observe its faithful observance will be problematic and possibly a boomerang.”

At the same time, he noted that Greece has an increase in cases like other countries lately, but remains stable. “There is pressure in Attica, but ICUs are increasing.”

Mr Petsas said that, as the WHO has pointed out, people have started to get tired of the measures, but if one stops wearing masks indoors, we will have an outbreak of cases.

“Today we see many cases coming from the workplace.”

The mandatory use of mask outdoors, he said, is one of the measures that will be examined if there is an explosion of cases.

“You may consider extending the store hours to 1 am.”

For Kontoni and SYRIZA

Regarding Kontoni’s statements and his departure from SYRIZA, Mr. Petsas said that “Kontoni’s statements were not a surprise, neither for us nor for those who are not lotus eaters.”

As he said, instead of Tsipras commenting on what Kontonis said, we saw internal party stabbings.

When asked why they did not vote in favor of the amendment presented yesterday by SYRIZA for the abolition of the accessory penalty of deprivation of civil rights, Mr. Petsas said that with unconstitutional and harsh amendments no solution can be found.

“As for the future, we will see what should be done after the sentences are announced and changes are made,” he said.

Some in SYRIZA felt they could “cooperate” when convenient, Petsas said, adding “there is no scope in such Nazi formations.”

Finally, he stressed that modifications are needed for the future. But in the past, in this trial that shocked Greece, nothing could be done.

For turkey

Turkey will face the European Council on October 16 following its decision to open the beach in Occupied Famagusta, a government spokesman said.

We ask you to revoke this decision, otherwise it is inevitable to raise the issue in the European Council, added Mr Petsas.

With regard to maritime areas, de-escalation continues, as mentioned and specified by the start date of exploratory contacts for after the October 16 Summit.
