The government spokesman, Stelios Petsas, speaking on the ANT1 newscast, “Morning Press”, stressed that “Christmas carols with the logic we had last year and all these procedures as you understand must be in the framework of a new regularity.” He added that “you cannot see images with children in neighborhoods and from house to house.”

Stelios Petsas, in the same interview, also stated that the coronavirus vaccine is expected to arrive in our country in January and the vaccination of vulnerable groups and health workers will begin immediately. By the end of the second quarter of 2021, Greece is expected to receive 25 million batches of vaccine, a sufficient quantity to cover the entire population and since two doses are needed for each person.

How long will the confinement last?

The main address for the national shutdown announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is November 30. However, scientists estimate that the evolution of new cases of coronavirus, hospitalizations and availability in the ICU may mean the extension of the confinement.

Characteristic was the position of the professor of Microbiology Athanasios Tsakris, who yesterday seemed sure to extend the confinement. Mr Tsakris claimed, among other things, that a universal closure – by March standards – will likely be decided in the coming days for Thessaloniki and northern Greece, where new infections remain high. So far, this scenario has not been confirmed by government officials.

However, government spokesman Stelios Petsas said he was considering extending the lockdown, reiterating that the goal is for the market to operate by Christmas.
