The Attica region is in “orange” and “we must move before it turns red,” government spokesman Stelios Petsas told reporters about developments in the coronavirus pandemic.
In fact, he confirmed that ICUs have suffered an increase in load in recent days.
“Some areas are ‘orange’ and ‘we have to move before it turns red.’ Among them is the Attica region, which has 3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, but there is a deterioration that led to additional measures, Petsas said.
Specifically, he mentioned that today there are 930 ICU beds, of which 701 for patients with other diseases and 229 for patients with coronavirus, of which 86 are occupied and 143 vacant, that is, a percentage of 37.5 % Of occupation. In Attica hospitals there are 330 ICU beds, of which 225 for other diseases and 75 for coronavirus patients, and 53 are occupied and 22 are vacant.
He also said that more than 6,800 doctors and nurses were hired on temporary contracts, most of which will remain on a permanent basis, while for ICU beds he said their increase continues.
“Let us all work together against the common enemy. It takes patience and perseverance until we get to vaccination. The next few months will be difficult. Public health does not weigh in any balance. The government is taking the necessary measures, and if there is an improvement it will be it will withdraw, but if there is a deterioration the measures will be intensified ”, said Mr. Petsas.
“Let’s all make sure, following the measures recommended by the experts, to stop the increase in cases that we have seen in recent days. “If we don’t do that, the social and economic costs will be higher,” the government spokesman said.
According to the data presented by Mr. Petsas on September 15, Greece ranked 124 internationally, and while the world average per 1 million inhabitants is 3,817 cases, in our country we had 1,319 cases, that is, the average national is three times smaller, said the government spokesman.
In terms of deaths, Greece ranks 110th internationally. With the international average of 120.6 deaths per 1 million inhabitants in Greece, the average is 30.
“Currently, as admissions to Attica hospitals increase, the Health Ministry is implementing the plan to increase ICU-Covid beds, as it did in the first phase of the pandemic.
And to reduce the occupancy rate, the denominator will first be increased, that is, the total number of ICU-Covid.
According to the plan of the Ministry of Health, 40 additional ICU-Covid beds will be added in the next 7 days. “There are 12 beds in” Sotiria “, 12 in the Asclepieion de Voula, 6 in” Attikon “, 4 in the military hospitals of Attica and 6 in the General Hospital of Chalkida”, explained Mr. Petsas.
