Tonight, on New Year’s Eve, a special festive atmosphere was created in the “Agios Andreas” hospital in Patras, by the firefighters of the 6th EMAK and the 1st fire station of the city.
The firefighters, dressed as Santa Claus and elves, descended with ropes from the roof of the seven-story building to the balconies of the rooms, delivering gifts, but also joy to patients.
The first Santa Claus climbed up the hospital chimney, while the rest of the Santa Claus and the elves began to descend through the balconies, where patients, their companions and hospital personnel awaited them.
Seeing the firefighters up close, patients, assistants and staff began to clap, thank and wish them a happy new year. Throughout this festive “mission”, the facade of the building was illuminated by stars, while the band from the municipality of Patras played carols and carols. It should be noted that tonight’s event was organized by the hospital administration, observing all prescribed protective measures, in cooperation with the fire department, the Patras municipality and the Western Greece Region, with the aim, according to the administration from the hospital, to reach everywhere. message of love, optimism and hope for the new year.
Speaking after the event, Giannis Petroutsos, Lieutenant General for Firefighters and Operations Coordinator in the Peloponnese, Western Greece and Ionian Islands, said that “with tonight’s event we wanted to boost patient morale and send the message of that the new year will bring hope for a better future. ” For his part, the regional deputy governor of Acaya, Charalambos Bonanos, said that “the objective of this event was to change the gloomy climate of these days,” adding that “the Western Greece Region will always support similar actions.”
Speaking later, the president of the cultural organization of the municipality of Patras, Katerina Geropanagioti, stressed that “in this symbolic, but also substantial way, we wanted, not only to support the workers, but to unite our voice with the voice of the movement, demanding and demanding everything necessary now to protect the health of our people ”.
