Paros: former mayor Christos Vlachogiannis died of coronavirus

Indescribable sadness spread the news in Paros that the former mayor of the island Christos Vlachogiannis passed away shortly after midnight on Saturday 24 October, defeated by Koronaios.

According to the website parianostypos, Christos Vlachogiannis bravely struggled with the corona virus that he caught in early October, when he headed to his hometown of Diava, Trikala, to visit his elderly ailing mother, who passed away a few days later.

With the onset of the symptoms of the disease, he was transferred to the Larissa University Hospital where he remained intubated in the Intensive Care Unit for almost three weeks, fighting hard to stay alive.

Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful, plunging his family and relatives in grief, as well as the entire island of Paros.

Christos Vlachogiannis was born in 1954 in Diava, Trikala and graduated from the Larissa Pedagogical Academy. In 1977-1978, he was appointed and served as a teacher at the Primary School of the Saviors of Paros. He settled on the island where he started a family, maintaining the personality of an excellent family man.

He had an intense public action in dealing with the public of the island. He was Vice President of the Board. Teachers – Kindergarten Teachers from Paros – Antiparos, was elected Community Counselor in the Marpissa Community in 1990 and served as Community Vice President until 1998.

In 2002 he was elected Municipal Councilor in the Municipality of Paros and served as President of the Municipal Council from 2003 to 2007. Until September 2014, he was Mayor of Paros. Christos Vlachogiannis left his indelible mark on the public positions he held on the island.

A deeply cultured, discreet, moderate, committed and humble man, with morals and a pure spirit, he had friends from all walks of life. As mayor, he tried to transmit to pariah society more than his work, which concerned the solution of the daily and long-term problems of Paros, the unifying and collective spirit that should govern all public action.
