The new structure of the Greek Armed Forces was approved by a large majority and consensus in Parliament.
ND, SYRIZA and the Movement for Change voted in favor of the new structure, while MeRA25 voted “present”. The Hellenic Solution and the KKE voted against it for different reasons.
It was preceded by confidential information provided by the political and military leadership to the members of the Parliament’s Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs, for the restructuring of the three organs, followed by a closed-door meeting.
The new structure of the Armed Forces will be in effect until 2034 and, according to the information, the Ministry of National Defense presented three versions of equipment and expenses, worth between 16-63 billion euros.
According to the information, it was agreed to create a new special warfare force, which will include all “weapons” (air force, navy and army) and will operate in accordance with NATO standards.
