The authorities immediately evacuated the Eiffel Tower and its surroundings, while the police operation is underway, looking for for explosive device in situ.
French journalist Amaury Bucco wrote on Twitter: “The police have evacuated the area, the operation is ongoing. A man threatens to blow up everything.”
“The monument has been evacuated since noon, inspections are underway at the site,” said the Eiffel Tower company in Le Parisien, which said a security perimeter had been installed around the monument.
The area around the Eiffel Tower is closed and vehicles are not allowed.
