There has been great concern in the Ministry of Education for the numerous squats that are taking place across the country.

The ministry assures that it is talking with open schools, while today it gave and gave clarifications about distance education and absences.

Specifically, it was announced that by decision of the Minister of Education Niki Kerameos and the Deputy Minister Sofia Zacharaki, they are provided:

  • In the event of an emergency or unforeseen, which makes it impossible or especially difficult for the educational process to take place in a department or in an entire school unit, schools are obliged to provide modern distance education, compulsory for both
  • teachers and students.
Students who obstruct the educational process cannot participate in modern distance education and receive absences for as many hours of instruction as the day’s schedule allows.
  • The absence of a student in each lesson hour of modern distance education is registered by the teacher, counted in the general total of absences and taken into account for the characterization of the student.
  • Every teacher is obliged to properly record the titles of the unit he taught on a daily basis.

For distance learning

The Deputy Government Spokesperson, Aristotle Peloni, provided clarification on student access to e-learning.

As he said:

  • We have updated the digital systems of the Ministry of Education for the implementation of e-learning.
  • We have ensured the free use of a distance education platform, which is already connected to the Panhellenic Schools Network since the beginning of the school year.
  • We have provided free data for the use of platforms used by the Ministry of Education for distance education.
  • We have beefed up schools with over 20,000 handheld devices that are already available, by the principal’s decision, to those in need. Another approximately 50,000 devices are expected through NSRF.
  • It is possible to connect to the e-learning platform even by phone, with a simple phone call with local charge.
