Altmeier told Die Welt that it is not possible to lift the measurements, while in much of Germany there are more than 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
“We have three to four long winter months ahead of us,” he said.
“It is possible that the restrictions will continue into the first months of 2021.”
The chancellor Angela Merkel agreed this Wednesday with the heads of the 16 L. under Germany extend and tighten measures against the coronavirus at least until December 20.
Germany imposed a “light blockade” in early November, as part of which closed bars and restaurants, but schools and shops were allowed to remain open. The measures slowed the exponential increase in cases, but infections have stabilized at a high level.
In the last 24 hours, 21,695 new cases of coronavirus have been registered in Germany, according to data released today by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), increasing to 1,028,089 the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic.
