The nightmare increase in coronavirus cases in our country brings great concern and suggestions for new measures. For the first time the number of confirmed cases was four digits, reaching 1,259. Almost half are recorded in Attica (295) and Thessaloniki (291). Active coronavirus cases nationwide amount to 7,134.
Ioannina and Serres go into lockdown mode from Thursday, October 29 at 6 am, as they raise the level of health security and go from “orange” (3) to “red” (4). In Ioannina 21 cases were registered today and in Serres 55. The situation in Larissa is also serious, with 47 new cases.
In 5 to 7 days the effects of the explosion of the suitcases will be seen.
In five to seven days the effects of this rapid increase in cases will be seen in the health system, said Mina Gaga, pulmonologist and coordinating director of the VII Pulmonary Clinic of the Sotiria Hospital, in statements to the main SKAI newsletter.
“We have beds right now.” Some hospitals are under a lot of pressure, “he said, explaining that no health system in the world can handle a massive flow of patients.
Tsiodras: almost impossible to control the spread of the virus
The urgency of the situation prompted the main infectious disease specialist, Sotiris Tsiodras, to recall information about the course of the pandemic in Greece. He stressed that the spread of the virus is impossible to control but we must not lose hope and called for the use of a mask by everyone and the faithful implementation of the measures.
“Unfortunately, our individual freedoms are being violated by these measures, but at the moment the mask is the only option we have. Personally, I have been going to a coffee shop and restaurant since February. It is the only option I have, not to convey the coronavirus to anyone, ”he said.
New measurements: reflections on focused distances and hours
Mr. Tsiodras emphasized that the Infectious Diseases Committee processes the data and proposes measures to avoid a blanket ban that, as he characteristically said, will have enormous consequences on many levels.
“We are thinking of other measures that could work more in addition to the measures that have already been taken,” Tsiodra said.
In fact, wanting to give an example, he said that there are circumstances in our lives where we need to speak loudly, be very close to each other, indirectly but clearly referring to fun. As he emphasized, “the music must be low so that we can listen and not have to scream more, since the more we scream, the more air drops come out of our mouth.”
Although he did not disclose which measures will be discussed in the committee next Thursday, he spoke of a review of distances in focus and sports, especially in sports that require physical contact.
Earlier, Professor Athanasios Tsakris revealed, speaking to SKAI, that the infectious diseases committee has already suggested a further reduction in operating hours in restaurants and nightclubs, an earlier traffic ban and an increase in teleworking.
These measures will possibly be discussed in the next few days in the Commission and are likely to be implemented in the coming weeks.
