New wave of bad weather: roads in Ioannina and Agrinio flooded, trees uprooted in Corfu

Big problems have been caused mainly in the road network of Ioannina, Agrinio and Corfu by the new wave of bad weather that has hit the areas since Friday night.

Especially during the nights, strong storms hit Epirus.

The roads around Lake Ioannina were flooded

The meteorological phenomena were especially intense in Ioannina prefecture, causing flooding in neighborhoods of the city.

According to epiruspost.gr, the storm was accompanied by strong winds that resulted in the fall of a tree that was removed by the Fire Department and several power outages in many locations that were restored relatively immediately.

Bad weather also hit the mountains of the prefecture, causing several problems on the road network due to the landslides that followed.

Ten machines from the Civil Protection of the Epirus Region rushed to the villages of Konitsa, Tzoumerka, Metsovo and Zagori to restore the road network.

Agrinio’s roads collapsed

Problems were also reported in parts of the Etoloakarnania road network.

The first problems due to the rains occurred in the Houni area.

A large volume of imported materials blocked the road to Houni. Police are on the scene and a machine has been called in to clear the road seen in the photos below.

Major disasters in the municipality of Thermo due to the morning flood. Greater damage in the local communities of Analipse, Avarikou, Kato Chrysovitsa, Petrochori, Sitaralona and in the settlements of Dosoula, Koulouria and Koftra.

The Agrinio Fire Service received several calls, early in the morning and had to intervene by pumping water in houses in Dagli and Manou Katraki, in three houses in the Stratos area and another from a house in Kato Chrysovitsa. There were also requests for elevator traps due to power outages.

Corfu: tree falls from the storm

The men of the Fire Department proceeded to cut down 4 trees, a product of the bad weather last night that was characterized by the storm but also by the strong winds.

Although the phenomenon was clearly milder than the previous one in the early hours of Thursday, Firefighters and Civil Protection were on alert to address the problems.

Small problems have been created in some lines of the coastal transport, due to the strong winds from the south that blow in many maritime areas and reach 8 Beaufort.

The Nea Styra-Agia Marina, Kavala-Prinos Thassos, Igoumenitsa-Corfu and Igoumenitsa-Lefkimmi lines are closed. Passengers who will be traveling today should contact local port authorities and travel agencies before departing.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms: which areas are affected

The local rains and storms on the Ionian, western and central continents bring a cold front that crosses the country from the early hours of the morning.

According to the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens / Meteo.gr, the highest precipitation levels are recorded in Epirus (Ioannina Prefecture) and the Central Ionian.
