Awesome images. The “lens” of Perseverance, the NASA rover that arrived after a long trip to Mars, immortalized the surface of the “red planet”, offering frames reminiscent of science fiction movies.

At the same time, the United States Space Agency managed to record the first sounds from the planet’s surface, a “Martian breeze”, as it is characterized.

According to the scientists, the audio data does not offer any useful elements, however the microphone used managed to “survive” its difficult mission, which is an encouraging message for the future.

Frame – frame the landing

NASA released a video with stunning images of the Perseverance landing on Monday.

In just three minutes, the posted video reveals images taken by multiple cameras connected to different parts of Perseverance as it enters the Martian atmosphere: one camera shows the opening of the supersonic parachute, another camera, located below the rover, Mars landing closer, and Others. Two shots show the rover gradually landing while suspended by three cables.

“This is the first time we’ve recorded an event such as a landing on Mars,” Michael Watkins, director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where the rover was built, told a news conference. “It’s really fantastic.”

“These images and videos are what we’ve been dreaming of for years,” added Allen Chen, NASA’s Perseverance lander. NASA teams will use the optical material to better understand what happens during the landing.

The rover was protected by a heat shield when it entered the Martian atmosphere at a speed of 20,000 km per hour. In the video you can also see this shield falling to the surface of Mars.

The cameras are standard commercial cameras, added without being connected to the mobile system, so as not to interfere with its operation.

The landing maneuver was adventurous and the site chosen, Jezero crater, the most dangerous of any mission, due to the terrain.
