The uprising of the Polytechnic was the culmination of the resistance against the dictatorship. The march towards the anniversary of the uprising is the most important manifestation of memory and homage. The dead from the Polytechnic, but also those who lost their lives, were imprisoned and tortured during the dictatorship. This year, however, only for reasons of public health protection, the course should not be held. It will definitely take place next year with great turnout.
But what is worth seeing and redesigning the “big picture”: the importance of anniversaries in our collective memory, including marches and parades, combined with the role of education, the media and politics. Depending on the conclusions of such a discussion, we could also introduce new ways to preserve the national memory.
I present a specific proposal. Every year, on November 17, the President of the Republic will award prizes to the first admitted to our Universities in honor of those who lost their lives at the Polytechnic, those killed on the day of the coup, those killed by the junta, anti-dictatorial action abroad. of those killed in exiles and jails of the junta and those who were inhumanely tortured by the junta. This could be done in collaboration with the Resistance Prisoners and Exiles Association (1967-1974).
Establish an award in memory of Diomidis Komninos for the first admission to the School of Naval Engineering of the Technical University. And awards in memory of Ioannis Mikronis by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the University of Patras, Vasiliki Bekiari by the Faculty of Medicine of Patras, George Samouris by one of the departments of the University of Panteion, George Tsarouchas by Thessaloniki Law Costas Georgakis for the Faculty of Medicine of Athens, Maria-Elena Angeloni, Markos Karamanis, Aikaterini Argyropoulou, Dimitris Theodoras and awards in memory of all those who lost their lives to overthrow the junta, for freedom and democracy.
