Almost a week after the catastrophic fire that turned the Moria KYT to ashes and left thousands of refugees and immigrants on the streets, the Minister of Civil Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis of Mytilene, announced five arrests by ELAS.
As Mr. Chrysochoidis said from Mytilene, the police authorities are looking for someone else. All of the detainees are Afghans and two of the five are unaccompanied minors. In fact, the information indicates that a minor, the most active, was transported with other minors to Pieria, the day after the fire.
Michalis Chrysochoidis statement in detail:
“Moria’s arsonists are in custody. There are five young foreigners. Another is wanted. The police worked methodically, put an end to unfounded scenarios and cases. All kinds of extremists were refuted again. The state is being reconstituted. It shows every day that it is it is here with rigor, sensitivity, legitimacy and humanity. Both immigrants and residents have an interest in accepting our proposals and the reality of the new structure. One thing is for sure. Lesbos cannot bear other slogans, it wants seriousness and a solid administration. I assure you that logic and legality, safety, health and normal life will prevail ”.
Mr. Chrysochoidis congratulated on the success of the arrest of the arsonists, the executives of ELAS in Lesbos and specifically the executives of the Mytilene Security Branch.
It is observed that after the destruction of the Moria BCP, thousands of migrants were left homeless resulting in informal settlements on the island of Mytilene, fearing the spread of the coronavirus, since several residents in the structure tested positive for the new coronavirus.
Immigrants do not enter the new structure in Kara Tepe
In fact, in recent days, the political leadership organized a large operation to form a new makeshift camp in Kara tepe in order to accommodate the homeless of the Moria KYT. However, as it became known from the Ministry of Immigration, only 800 people have entered the new structure as many are talking about “new Molecules”.
For this reason, the Greek Police is making an effort to confront the group of criminals, mainly Afghans – against whom pending asylum applications are pending – who terrorize refugees and migrants affected by the fire, preventing them from entering the new structure by Kara Tepe.
“Bye Bye Moria” was sung by immigrants when the KYT was on fire
Shortly after the first fire broke out at Moria headquarters, a video was posted on Twitter showing the camp engulfed in flames and immigrants at the same time, apparently filming the video, chanting “Bye Bye Moria.” According to unconfirmed information, one of the 5 detained Afghans is said to be the one singing “Bye Bye Moria”.
