He added that the goal is for the state’s digital portal, which began operating in March and is a “base” of the public administration, with 724 electronic services, to soon reach 1,000.

According to the Prime Minister, so far it has received 7 million visits, issued 772,000 digital documents, while processing 6.6 million intangible prescriptions and another 2.3 million intangible referrals. Likewise, through it, public bodies communicate with each other to obtain information that is no longer required by citizens and communicate with them without physical presence, but electronically.

“Our objective is that gov.gr is constantly enriched, with more and more services. To become, in the end, the only digital channel of contact between the State and the citizen”, he concluded.

Mr. Mitsotakis also referred to the use of gov.gr and the state’s electronic services for the upcoming coronavirus vaccination. As he characteristically noted, “universal vaccination is a prerequisite for our democracy, for the recovery of freedom and prosperity. And it would require many more resources, human and material, if we did not have the digital tools that will play a role from making an appointment to accurately registering vaccines and certifying them. “Technology, therefore, thanks to government policy, is becoming an important lever to alleviate the social and economic inequalities caused by the pandemic and lead to a democratic and cohesive society.”

According to the Prime Minister, the challenge of the transition to the new era remains and in fact with greater extension and intensity, since the transformation of the State is called to accompany the digital adjustment of the economy as a whole, as highlighted by the crisis of Health. “The pandemic, then, enriched and accelerated our experience in many areas. From the immediate information of citizens to distance education. And I believe that the country has now taken the necessary steps that will take it to the great leap,” he said. and I add:

“The digital transition, after all, is also a European goal. But also the central pillar of our National Plan, as has already been reflected in the Digital Document in consultation, which I highlight includes projects for a total of more than 6,000 million euros for the coming years. Part of this national planning has already been included in the national proposal submitted by Greece for the use of the resources of the European Recovery Fund. The Digital Transformation Bible alone includes more than 400 projects for the implementation of the strategy for Digital Greece. “The National Cyber Security Strategy will be ratified by Parliament soon.”

The prime minister also referred to the auction of the 5th generation (5G) networks that is completed in a few days and is already mobilizing significant investments, as he stressed, with the expectation “every week from early 2021 onwards, they will start the first commercial networks to be activated one after another “.

He also pointed out that the development of fiber optic infrastructure, with more than 2.4 million citizens and companies, is progressing with approved European funding. But also the special care for the digital empowerment of very small, small and medium-sized companies, through specific programs and tax exemptions for investments that will improve the digital profile of all Greek companies, regardless of their size. As the Prime Minister stressed, “Technology transforms the size of small businesses from a weakness to an advantage. And we must not miss this opportunity.” After all, we see the solutions we find for the operation of commerce in pandemic conditions thanks to to digital applications, such as click-away “.

For this reason, he added, the operation of the “Phaistos” fund will begin in the coming months, with the aim of strengthening investments that use innovation and technology. “These are initiatives that create an extremely fertile environment for high-productivity investments in cutting-edge technologies.” Because digital transformation has now gone from being a matter of urgency to a necessity, “he said, noting that the recovery plan, which has been acclaimed by European officials, is “the key vehicle to overcome it quickly.” The distance that separates us from other countries. But also the field to develop pioneering applications in our country, which will be created here, by Greek minds and Greek hands. All this helps Greece to become a destination for investment and knowledge workers, as can be seen from Microsoft’s large investment in Attica, CISCO, Pfizer in Thessaloniki. “

The Prime Minister closed his greeting by referring to the crucial role of SEPE in the implementation of these policies, but also with praise to the Director General of the Association, Giannis Syrros, who is president of the World Association for Information Technology and Technology Services. “On his face, then, Greek creativity is worth praising,” Mitsotakis said.
