It is the largest fish in the world in the ossicle category and can weigh up to 2.5 tons but is not consumed due to its toxicity.

The big and strange fish was seen by two friends on the Fyriplaka beach of Milos, while they had difficulty understanding that it is a sunfish as it looked like a shark and a dolphin.

One of the friends uploaded photos to the Internet with the strange fish, which had a shark-like fin but looked a lot like a dolphin.

What is the sunfish

The sunfish (scientific name: Mola mola) is one of the heaviest known bony fish, weighing between 250 and 1000 kg. The species is found in the tropical and temperate waters of the world. It resembles a fish head with a tail and its body is vertically flat. The sunfish can be the same height when the dorsal and ventral fins are extended.

It looks particularly disgusting and its use has been banned across Europe due to its toxicity. It usually lives at great depths and fishermen who know it consider it a bad omen when they fish for it in their nets. Despite its enormous size, it feeds on plankton, jellyfish, and small fish that it finds burrowing at the bottom.

According to information from Cyclades24.gr, the two men notified the Milos Port Authority where they arrived in the area, and found that the strange and rare fish was dead. According to sources from the Port, the fish was about 2.5 meters long by 1 meter wide. The municipality of Milos immediately started the procedures for dumping the fish.
