A 40-year-old man was arrested in Messinia by police officers from the Department of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities of the Attica Security Directorate, accused of violating the law on the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage.
According to ELAS, the investigation of the case began with information about a person who was transporting antiques, for their later disposal, for 100,000 euros. Following the searches, the 40-year-old man was located and during a search of the car he was using, ancient moving relics were found in the luggage area, which he illegally possessed and confiscated, while he was arrested immediately afterwards.
The confiscated antiquities were shown to a competent archaeologist from the Messinian Antiquities Ephorate, who said they are under the protective provisions of the antiquities and cultural heritage protection law, while noting that they are of great archaeological value.
The detainee was brought before the Public Ministry of Kalamata, while the investigation of the case for trafficking continues, as well as the final recipients of the old objects that were confiscated.
