The tourism issue remains at the core of government personnel, and the government makes step-by-step decisions that will lead to opening of businesses in the industry and hotels.
In this context and in order to pave the way initially for the resumption of national tourism, today announcements are expected on how to free the movements that, as is known, will begin from next Monday, May 18. That is, when the third phase of the government’s plan to lift the restrictive measures adopted for the coronation is implemented.
The opening of hotels
The next step to lift the restrictive measures is to open hotels. It has already been announced that the 12-month hotels will reopen on June 1, while decisions on tourist accommodation are expected, for which the initial information places their reopening on June 8. However, according to the latest information, the opening of the tourist accommodation will take place two days later, on June 10.
However, government personnel make all decisions based on the evolution of epidemiological data and the maintenance of new cases at low levels.
The government is expected to announce a tourism plan next week, which will focus on four areas: health protocols, transportation, labor relations, and financial support for companies.
From Monday the movements from prefecture to prefecture
Starting next week, travel from prefecture to prefecture will be allowed, while the first ferry services to Crete will be carried out, as the island will be the first to open to visitors after the travel restriction. At the same time, the road trip to Evia will be allowed, while the trip to the other islands will begin on May 25.
RELEVANT ITEMS
also Starting Monday, air, KTEL and train travel will open, always based on security measures., as government spokesman Stelios Petsas pointed out today, stating that all passengers on planes and ships, but also on road transport (bus, bus, train) must wear a protective mask. “A mask will be used indoors, both on airplanes and in shipping. There will be announcements that refer not only to travelers, but also to all the measures that professionals in the area must take for a boat, plane or travel agency “Mr. Petsas said.
Ship security measures
Regarding the movements by ship, the Island’s Minister of Transport and Policy, Giannis Plakiotakis, had mentioned the plan for security measures in coastal maritime transport. Mr. Plakiotakis had specifically stated for boats that they will travel at 50% of their capacity, while for boats with cabins this percentage will reach up to 55%. Regarding “airline seats”, it has already been announced that there will be a vacancy among passengers, while there will be a special mark on where they will have to sit. Furthermore, according to the design so far, the doors and windows should be opened more than usual, while in terms of mechanical ventilation in case of interrupted operation of the boat, the ventilation system should not stop at all.
Measurements and trains
As for train travel, as TRAINOSE has already announced, from Monday they will resume routes on the Athens-Thessaloniki axis, and in this case, however, under strict health measures. Specifically and according to TRAINOSE’s announcement:
- The staff uses the necessary equipment.
- There are antiseptic points on every car on all trains.
- There is a constant flow of fresh air on all trains.
- There is a constant change of air filters on all trains.
- All trains are disinfected daily.
- There is control over the shipment.
- All tickets are issued electronically.
Waiting for air travel announcements
However, the most critical for the resumption of the operation of the tourism industry in Greece are the air travel announcements that will give a “green” light to the reception of foreign tourists in the country.
So far, the only certainty is that the use of a mask by passengers and staff will be mandatory, there will be no vacancies among passengers and there will be no drinks or food available.
However, a big question remains how passengers will be certified healthy so that there is no spread of the virus in Greece from imported cases. However, it is recalled that the Commission in its recommendations for tourism on Wednesday did not include the Greek proposal for a test until 72 hours before boarding the plane.
