In our country, animal abuse is beyond imagination, nests being the most common way to exterminate mainly stray animals, and not just animals. Animals that poison themselves and die torturously. Yesterday in the Egaleo area several kittens lost their lives, 4 of them were transported for necropsy and one is fighting for his life while being treated at a veterinary clinic.
Animal-friendly volunteers complain to SKAI.gr that they know about the crime from the testimonies of neighbors, who have a professional relationship with the area where the poison was found. According to the complaint, he constantly claimed that he hated animals and made comments to animal keepers or anyone who fed the homeless. He called the municipality of Egaleo at least twice a week and asked that the place be cleaned, that it be cleaned of animals and that it be removed.
More specifically, on Friday, the alleged aggressor, according to testimonies, threw a large amount of mothballs throughout the square where the kittens lived. The amount was such that even the inhabitants were upset because they could not breathe when passing. He was asked to collect the mothballs and said he did it to scare the cats away. Its inhabitants asked him to contact the department of animal welfare and ask them to remove part of the population so as not to disturb it. The next day, the kittens were found dead.
Olga Gavaki, a member of the Egaleo and Peristeri animal welfare associations, as well as the legal representative of the Panhellenic Group Against Abuse, told SKAI.gr: “Today we are going to file a lawsuit. These horrible mass murders must come to light. The kittens were cared for by an old woman with her back turned, who today cried and told us that she was fasting to buy food and raise them: “No one has the right to take the life of any creature.”
As Ms. Gavaki noted: “Mayor Giannis Gikas and the responsible Deputy Mayor Panagiotis Mandraflis were with us as soon as they were informed about the incident.” We asked that the animals be transported for an autopsy and we were covered immediately. “
