Majorkinis confirmed another day that the majority of new cases are in the capital, as 240 new infections are found in Attica today. “Attica still has the lion’s share in the number of new diagnoses and especially in the younger ones,” he said, reiterating that in “red” there are neighborhoods in the center of Athens.

Rapid tests for coronavirus are particularly reliable

Gikas Majorkinis then referred to a rapid test, the latest example being Koumoundourou Square, where 24 positive cases of coronavirus were found in 514 tests. The professor noted that the international community seems to adopt the same strategy, while noting that rapid tests show satisfactory reliability, with a delay of between 5% and 8% in these tests compared to molecular tests.

Gikas Majorkinis also referred to the emergency on the cruise ship, noting that even during the last control of Attica Hospital, all employees were negative about the coronavirus. Respectively, the samples from the ship’s surfaces were negative.

Finally, the professor addressed the development of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine. A type of mRNA vaccine, which if you manage to complete the third phase of testing in October, may also make vaccines available in 2020.

New cases of coronavirus do not allow complacency

Addressing citizens, the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias highlighted that our country still registers fewer cases of coronavirus compared to countries with similar populations, such as the Netherlands. However, he said, the increase in new infections and intubations does not allow for complacency.

Mr. Hardalias referred to the controls of the state mechanism for compliance with measures against the transmission of the coronavirus. As he said, since the end of August, in 101 inspections in health units, 20 infractions were found and the corresponding fines were imposed.
