French President Emanuel Macron announced that France will re-enter a lockdown starting next Friday and for at least a month, following the outbreak of new cases and deaths in the country.
France has recorded 244 new deaths from Covid-19, bringing the total to 35,785, according to French television, during a speech by President Emanuel Macron.
According to health authorities, France has registered 36,437 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the total to 1,235,132.
Faced with the strong outbreak of new coronavirus infections in the country, Emanuel Macron addressed the French people on Wednesday night with a televised speech, in order to announce the “new step” to face the pandemic.
Among the key measures announced:
- Citizens should stay home and be able to leave if they have an excuse to do so. Emanuel Macron said that the quarantine now it will be similar to the one that was imposed in spring, when citizens were allowed to go out for medical reasons, for work, to go to school, to do the necessary shopping or to exercise for an hour a day.
- Anyone who moves out of their home must have a document that justifies their presence outside. This can be verified by the police.
- Schools will remain open, unlike the previous spring, when all educational institutions were closed.
- Universities will close.
- Cafes, restaurants and stores will close, except those that sell essential items, such as supermarkets and pharmacies. This can be reviewed in two weeks.
- Government services to the public will remain open, including municipal services.
- Everyone who can work from home should.
- The measures come into effect from 00:01 on Friday and will last until December 1.
