French President Emanuel Macron announced that France will re-enter a lockdown starting next Friday and for at least a month, following the outbreak of new cases and deaths in the country.
France has recorded 244 new deaths from Covid-19, bringing the total to 35,785, according to French television, during a speech by President Emanuel Macron.
According to health authorities, France has registered 36,437 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, bringing the total to 1,235,132.
Faced with the strong outbreak of new coronavirus infections in the country, Emanuel Macron addressed the French people on Wednesday night with a televised speech, in order to announce the “new step” to face the pandemic.
Among the key measures announced:
- Citizens should stay home and be able to leave if they have an excuse to do so. Emanuel Macron said that the quarantine now it will be similar to the one that was imposed in spring, when citizens were allowed to go out for medical reasons, for work, to go to school, to do the necessary shopping or to exercise for an hour a day.
- Anyone who moves out of their home must have a document that justifies their presence outside. This can be verified by the police.
- Schools will remain open, unlike the previous spring, when all educational institutions were closed.
- Universities will close.
- Cafes, restaurants and stores will close, except those that sell essential items, such as supermarkets and pharmacies. This can be reviewed in two weeks.
- Government services to the public will remain open, including municipal services.
- Everyone who can work from home should.
- The measures come into effect from 00:01 on Friday and will last until December 1.
Bar closings and request for exceptional returns
“After consulting the experts and discussing with the European partners, I decided that we should find the blockade again from next Friday. “Unlike the first Lockdown, schools remain open, general work continues, and nursing homes will continue to receive visitors,” said Emanuel Macron.

Also returning is the exceptional travel request, which the French must complete to leave home, while bars and restaurants are closed as of Friday. But factories, utilities and a host of other activities that were “frozen” last April continue to operate, according to Emanuel Macron.
The churches will also remain open, but the relocation request will involve, like in April, work, a medical appointment, going out to help someone in need or for French citizens to do their shopping. At the same time, you will not be allowed to move from one area to another during the lockdown.
The country’s borders are closing, says Emanuel Macron
At the same time, Emanuel Macron announced that the country’s borders will be closed, with the exception of French citizens who are currently abroad and who will be able to return within the weekend.
When it comes to employees, Emanuel Macron noted that special-purpose compensation for employees working in companies affected by the quarantine is making a comeback. In addition, teleworking is expanding and will be implemented wherever possible.
The aim of the authorities in France is to reduce new cases from the current 40,000 to 5,000, with the help of the traffic ban. According to Emanuel Macron, the pandemic data will be evaluated every 15 days.
“Everyone in Europe is shocked by the coronavirus outbreak,” says Macron.
“Our strategy since the summer has been to ‘live with the virus’, trying to limit the spread of the coronavirus,” said Emanuel Macron in his sermon, who, however, stressed that for many weeks we have been more tests for coronavirus “.
The virus spreads as winter sets in and cases increase, Emanuel Macron continued. “We are all surprised in Europe by the spread of the virus,” he said. “The second wave will be stronger and more deadly than the first,” he said.
