New and stricter measures are expected to be put in place in London to limit the transmission of the coronavirus.
As of Saturday night, nine million Londoners will live with additional restrictions. New measures have already been agreed between the government and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
So as of Saturday, gatherings will not be allowed even in houses.
At the same time, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing calls from the opposition for a new national blockade on England, but so far he is resisting.
However, hospital admissions are increasing and preparations are underway to reopen the field hospitals built last spring.
On Wednesday, Britain announced 19,724 new COVID-19 cases, an increase (2,490 more) compared to the cases it announced a day earlier.
Another 137 people died within 28 days of testing positive for the coronavirus.
