Lignadis was just the beginning: “Rain” of complaints in the theater – Those who have lost sleep

[ad_1]

The start took place outside the theater. Sofia Bekatorou’s revelation caused a storm, revealing the dirty secret of Greek society. The shouting behind closed doors, the insults in the workplace, the bruises on the body that most people turn a blind eye to.

The art world took over with Zeta Douka kicking off, accusing George Kimoulis of verbal and physical violence. Soon, the whispers that circulated for years in dressing rooms and theaters grew louder and louder.

Many of these whispers were about a specific person: Dimitris Lignadis, one of the main directors and actors of our country. His downfall was as spectacular as his rise: After three different charges, he was found guilty of serial rape. He was arrested and placed in preventive detention. The request to vacate his accusation is rejected by a panel – “fire”, which photographs a man who approached minors for 30 years.

Although the crimes he is accused of are heinous, Lignadis is not and should not be the only one. In similar scandals, both abroad and in Greece, usually only one central figure is indicted and convicted (whether his name is Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, or Akis Tsochatzopoulos) and eventually the case is forgotten.

For the art world, however, we are dealing with a lot of complaints that have to do not only with incidents of sexual abuse, but also with verbal and physical abuse. So this place needs to be cleaned …

However, consolidation must occur in all sectors of Greek society. Currently there are reports of incidents of all kinds of abuse in Arsakeio, not only during the period in which Lignadis collaborated with this school.

The complaints of harassment at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki have already taken the path of Justice. In addition to sailing, dirt is present in other sports. And of course, there is the daily harassment in the workplace, in the MMM and taxis, in our own home.

Dimitris Lignadis must not become (the only) scapegoat or the “victim” of the scapegoat (if that word can be said about this person). The beginning was made with all these complaints that have come to light in the last month. The abscess of sexism, abuse, and violence of any kind must be broken throughout Greek society.

News week for the Lignadis case

So while the famous director and actor spends his first 24 hours in prison, news is expected in his case this week.

His lawyer, Alexis Kougias, will likely file a request for the cancellation of his pre-trial detention, while supporting both witnesses and evidence the artist’s claims that in August 2010 and 2015 (reported intervals) he was in Egypt and Ithaca.

On the other hand, the whistleblower side is expected to fight back. According to lawyer Giannis Vlachos, who represents one of the complainants, revealed that there are new complaints about the Lignadis case.

As he told Alpha, he will present new evidence to the investigator this week including new allegations and testimony about Lignadis’ general criminal activity.

It will also request the realization of new investigative actions and in particular the seizure of computers and mobile phones, as well as the search for the digital data of the former artistic director of the National Theater.

The investigation into the allegations in Arsakeio begins Monday

Complementary to the Lignadis case is that of Arsakeio.

In Dimitris Lignadis’ file is the testimony of Vassilis, the first applicant, who claimed to have seen children from Arsakeio heading to the home of the actor and director. Vassilis even adds that Lignadis had asked him to have an affair with a student from Arsakeio, something he refused and so the actor proceeded to practice.

Respectively, the composer who has testified as a witness, speaks of Dimitris Lignadis’s relationship with the children of Arsakeio.

To these testimonies was added the report made by graduates of the Educational Society, requesting to investigate a period from 1994 to 2018.

In a letter sent to in.gr, 285 Arsakeio graduates from 1993 to 2018 state that they know and have been informed about the sexual, psychological or even verbal insults that students have suffered from specific teachers.

Following the publication of the previous letter, the Board of Directors of the Educational Society, as announced by its president, Professor George Babiniotis, presented a petition to the Athens Prosecutor’s Office requesting “to convene one by one the 285 graduates of the Arsakeion schools. to sign it, which was channeled to the media, in order to specify their complaints so that they can be duly investigated by the Athens Prosecutor’s Office. “

This report prompted the intervention of the head of the Prosecutor’s Office who requested a preliminary investigation, which begins tomorrow, Monday.

22 women complain about the actor-director that Botsi and Lambri had complained about

One issue that had been “stagnant” lately, due to the rapid evolution of the Lignadis case, was the complaints by Jenny Botsis, Angeliki Lambri and Loukia Michalas against a well-known director and actor. This man has also been accused by Panagiota Vlanti.

As a Real News reporter revealed to Alpha, the women who sign the complaint before the SEI of the two actors for sexual harassment are 22 in total.

In fact, as Aggeliki Lambri told the newspaper, most of these women are members of the SEI while the accused is not, therefore, the decision of the Association will be for formal reasons and for the moral satisfaction of these women.

Many more complaints in the hands of SEI …

And the sewer has no end, since there are innumerable complaints from the actors for their colleagues who arrive daily at the offices of the Association of Greek Actors (SEI).

Speaking to MEGA’s main newsletter, Spyros Bibilas, president of the Association of Greek Actors, noted that the complaints of actors to the Association are daily and are examined by the Disciplinary Council.

“There are complaints that come in every day. The disciplinary council is open.”

According to Bibilas, “in general there are protests for mistreatment”, and the Association and its Disciplinary Council collect all the complaints and deliver them to the Justice.

“Not all acts can be criminal.”

Despite the large number of complaints, the president of the Association of Greek Actors emphasizes that there is still fear and hesitation regarding the complaints.

“Even now there is a taboo, the feeling that if someone says they can’t lose their job. “We are trying to banish fear from our colleagues.”
