The center of Athens is the main concern of infectious disease specialists, as coronavirus cases increase.

Yesterday, EODY announced 1,151 cases in the country, of which 606 were registered in the Attica basin.

How coronavirus cases are distributed in Attica

According to EODY data, of 606 cases, 209 refer to the center of Athens. The number of cases is also increasing in the northern sector of Athens, with 88 infections, while there are 65 in the southern sector and 71 in Piraeus. Analytically:

  • East Attica: 63
  • Northern Athens sector: 88
  • West Attica: 33
  • Western Athens Sector: 77
  • Central Athens Sector: 209
  • South Athens sector: 65
  • Piraeus: 71

Attica: What areas show aggressive increase?

As the professor of Infectious Diseases and member of the expert committee of the Ministry of Health for the coronavirus Nikos Sypsas affirmed yesterday, areas of Attica, such as Patisia, Kypseli and the center of Athens, show an exponential increase in cases. He even stressed that more “strict” and “instantaneous” measures are needed.

Infectious Diseases Professor Sotiris Tsiodras, speaking in Parliament, demonstrated the recent increase in cases in Attica, showing how worrying the situation is in the Basin.

“Attica needs special attention,” he said, adding that there was an 81% increase in cases in the northern sector, 67% in the central sector and 123% in Western Attica, with an average age of over 40 years.

  • North Sector: 82% increase in cases per week,
  • Central sector: increase of 61%, with 1,400 assets
  • Western sector: 123% increase
  • West Attica continues to fight, despite harsh blocking
  • East Attica: 62% increase

Mr. Tsiodras even warned yesterday that there is a risk that we could reach 8,000 cases in the country in a week, while he pointed out that in Attica there are an estimated 4,000 active cases.
