Rosalia Gavriilidou, a relative of the couple, who also lost her father to a coronavirus, spoke to Mega about the tragic loss. “The comments and messages on social media were stormy. He was well loved, an excellent scientist, his death shocked the entire region.” As he worked at IKA as a pediatrician in Edessa and lived in Skydra, he had a wider area that was known and loved by the world, “said Ms. Gavriilidou.

“It just came to our knowledge then. We can’t know, maybe because of something he touched, maybe because of anything. A few days later the couple disappeared, a family separated. Their daughter was left alone. The day my first cousin died, her wife of Christos Aza, my father also died of a coronavirus. Ten days later, Christos also left. The blows are multiple. We have learned to ask how old he was if he had an underlying disease. I do not know how logical this is. Whatever theme each one of us has, he fights. “This invisible enemy is approaching and cutting the thread of life,” he added.

“The tragedy is that you send your people as a package. And it is the wound that remains. This is the image that remains with you. Without being able to say goodbye to them. We could not have reached this state. We maintained the measures. It hurts that it let us get to this point, the situation is out of control. Scientists advise us such important things and we ignore them. We must all assume our responsibilities and say that we must stop this here. “Let’s stay locked in the house, let’s not celebrate like we did” , Ms. Gavriilidou stressed.

“Three people from my family left. I have lost many friends and acquaintances. Our society is very small and we all know each other,” concluded Ms. Gavriilidou.
