The strict lockdown measures appear to be paying off by restricting the spread of the coronavirus, according to the latest data provided by EODY.

Suffice it to note that the latter 24 hours in 1,085 rapid test, only 66 positive cases of coronavirus were detected. In total, new infections with the new coronavirus amounted to 2,422, out of a total of almost 24,000 tests. 2,198 new coronavirus cases were announced on Monday, appearing in half the number of tests.

“It just came to our attention then. We see an initial stabilization image.“Which gives us hope that if we follow through with the measures we can slowly lift some of the restrictions,” said infectious disease pediatrician Vana Papaevangelou during the coronavirus briefing on Monday afternoon. The doctor, however, noted that we still have a difficult week ahead and expressed the hope that we will smile from next Monday.

This afternoon a similar belief was expressed and the government representative, Stelios Petsas, who noted, however, that the blockade does not seem likely to be lifted on December 1.

“We expect that by the end of the week the stabilization begins to show, and in a slight decrease, a rapid decrease in cases from the end of this week until the beginning of the next day.”

At the same time, he pointed out that “Maximos intends on November 30 to lift some measures of the confinement, with students being the first to return to schools. Then retail will open, while last on the list will be catering. “

Doubts that the national shutdown will end on November 30 are generally expressed in the government, as the spread of the pandemic in the community and the number of transmissions remain at high levels.

However, everything will be judged from the week we are passing or the next ten days. “Depending on the epidemiological data, we will act,” government officials said.

Pressure on ICUs across the country continues

The situation in the health system seems suffocating, as we are still at the height of the coronavirus pandemic across the country. The picture in Thessaloniki looks even more difficult, as the ICUs and beds with Covid patients are almost complete.

The president of the Workers of Hippocrates stated in a characteristic way that “all the beds that the hospital had developed have been filled … The ICUs are full since yesterday and we continue.” According to an OPEN report, since November 4, when 45 coronavirus patients were admitted to hospitals in Thessaloniki, the number jumped to 117 on Monday, November 17.

Nationwide, new treatments for Covid patients vary in 450 per day, while the number of intubated in ICU is constantly increasing. Intubated patients increased by 10% from yesterday and now stands at 443.

63 more deaths from coronavirus

At the same time, yet another day the number of people who lost their lives to the coronavirus is unusually high for data from Greece. Notably, 63 people died in the past 24 hours after complications related to the coronavirus.

Experts have stressed that the confinement will initially bring a reduction in new cases, while decongestion in the ICU, but also the reduction in mortality will come a few weeks later. “We hope that gradually, in the next two weeks, the number of intubated people and of our peers who are lost by the new coronavirus will decrease,” said Vana Papaevangelou during yesterday’s briefing.

As the experts have explained, the hospitalization time for Covid patients is long, as the people being treated today may have contracted the virus even a month earlier.
