Nikos Hardalias stressed that in these areas there is a displacement of cases from cities to towns and called for faithful compliance with the measures and the avoidance of displacement, in order to control the spread of the virus.

The Undersecretary of Civil Protection pointed out, at the same time, that they are not the only areas where the number of cases has not escalated.

He made special mention of the following areas: Thessaloniki, Grevena, Larissa, Magnesia, Halkidiki, Kilkis, Karditsa, Serres, Trikala, Kavala for which he pointed out that there is still a high risk despite the small decrease in cases.

Nikos Hardalias stressed that it is necessary to observe with absolute dedication the measures for the treatment of the coronavirus, as was done in the spring, while warning about the tightening of controls.

At the same time, he clarified that in the case of areas where the measures are not working, taking stricter measures is one way.

86% of cases in 5 areas

At the moment, the active cases, that is, the confirmed cases throughout the country that have not completed home isolation, are 16,617, reported the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection.

More specifically, of these, 7,031, that is, 42.3%, are in the Central Macedonia Region, 3,267, that is, 19.7%, are in the Attica Region, 1,777, that is, 10.7% are in the Thessaly Region, 1,590, or 9.6%, are in the East Macedonia and Thrace Region and 632, 3.8%, in West Macedonia.

As observed by Mr. Hardalias, 86.1% of active cases are geographically distributed in 5 of the 13 Regions of the country. In particular, he noted that 66.4% are in the northern part of Greece.

In addition, he noted that Attica collects 17.9% of active cases.

New measures from Monday, December 7

As announced by the Vice Minister of Civil Protection, on Monday, December 7, two new measures will come into force:

1. People who test positive for the virus will not be able to enter from the land border.

2. Visits to Mount Athos will not be allowed.
