Extraordinary meeting for the management of Covid-19 cases in Attica hospitals, in the context of the implementation of the Emergency Plan for epidemic, took place on Sunday morning under the direction of the Minister of Health, Mr. Vassilis Kikilias.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. Vassilis Kontozamanis, the Secretary General of Health Services, Mr. Ioannis Kotsiopoulos, the heads of the two Sanitary Regions of the Basin, Mr. Panagiotis Stathis and Christos Roilos, and the commander of EKAB, Mr. Nikos Papaefstathiou.
Yesterday’s vigil in Cuenca was very difficult: 276 patients were admitted, the highest number so far.
However, this week more pressure is expected on the NSS due to the coronavirus incidents, a fact that keeps those responsible for the Ministry of Health on high alert.
NIMTS is already almost full of non-Covid-19 incidents and the evacuation of the Sismanogleio clinics continues at an intensive pace, so it will start accepting Covid-19 incidents starting next Tuesday.
Those responsible in collaboration with the directors of the Medical Service of the hospitals are called to take care of the decompression of the clinics, promoting the discharge of patients who have to continue treatment outside the hospital, while freeing up valuable beds for the needs of the epidemic.
According to the information, this process does not progress at the most fluid and expected pace in some cases, for example it has been reported that managers do not indicate the number of beds that can be assigned to the system or keep patients in Emergency by asking EKAB to forward to another hospital.
In any case, the Health Ministry has made it clear to all involved that the NSS is preparing for a “war” in the next three weeks and calls on hospital staff to continue to fight with the same courage, endurance and self-denial.
Everyday cases do not leave much room for optimism, with indications that the March 16 target for market opening has been missed, to increase and those in charge of “watching” now on March 22, which means that the strict lockdown is likely to extend for another week.
The course of the pandemic so far shows that the mutations have created a suffocating context, since, in addition to the 2,301 cases announced on Saturday, the situation in hospitals is suffocating, with 452 intubated.
