Nikolaos Kapravelos, director of the ICU of the “Papanikolaou” hospital, gave a cry of agony, describing the desperate situation that prevails in the hospitals of Thessaloniki, with intubation and the large number of patients with coronavirus.

“Trying to detect the virus and isolate it is the only way to deal with this terrible disease and the entire pandemic. The words that they now speak to us here in northern Greece have lost their value. The situation is tragic. We work with zero beds, it doesn’t matter if we find two or three with a lot of effort. We started the vigil numerically with zero beds. This anxiety, this stress has some limits. I cannot describe in other words the situation that prevails. “Anxiety and despair,” Mr. Kapravelos said, speaking to Mega.

“The greatness of volunteering and of our children has two recipients: citizens, who must show more responsibility in the implementation of the measures. And the State, which must show greater determination and responsibility in making timely courageous decisions,” he added. the Director of the ICU of the “Papanikolaou” hospital.

Speaking at the Open, Mr. Kapravelos highlighted that Thessaloniki hospitals are on the “razor’s edge” and the great effort made by front-line people.

“Colleagues in the private sector want a few days to prepare. We are on the razor’s edge, we are waiting to see who will lose their life. We are holding the double-digit death toll with our teeth and nails. As long as we are late, we are wasting time. Colleagues in the private sector need training that should already have been done. All colleagues fight to maintain the system. And they expect greater responsibility in the implementation of the measures of the citizenship, but also of the State to take more decisive measures. “The applause is not enough,” he said.

“At this moment we are asking for Intensive Care Units and we don’t have them. We have limits and if we exceed them we will lose ”, added Mr. Kapravelos.
