An alarm has been sounded in the church after at least six confirmed cases of coronavirus in the metropolitans of the country.

The Metropolitan of Kalavrita and Aegialia Ieronymos, the Metropolitan of Ierissos, Mount Athos and Ardameri Theoklitos and Bishop Olenis Athanasios, are the priests already known to suffer from coronavirus. In fact, the bishop is being treated at the Rio Hospital, without presenting serious symptoms.
At the same time, Archbishop Ieronymos, following information that the Synodal Hierarch was positive, also underwent a test, which was negative. However, he remains in preventive quarantine in a monastery in Boeotia. Last week a meeting of the Holy Permanent Synod took place, a fact that caused great concern to the clergy. However, the Synod Hall has already been disinfected and employees return to their posts normally.
Archbishop Anastasios’s situation is under control
Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durres and all of Albania, who was diagnosed with a positive coronavirus, was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Evangelismos Hospital. According to the medical statement, “the Archbishop presents with mild symptoms of the respiratory system and a low-grade fever. His condition is characterized by being stable and controlled at the moment ”.
The archbishop was transported to Athens on Wednesday in an Air Force C-130 plane, inside a special capsule.
According to the spokesman of the Holy Permanent Synod, Athenagoras, the Holy Synod met on November 4, 5 and 6. “They informed us that there was a case and we tested all the participants except the Archbishop. “I am negative,” the spokesman said.
As for the discussion that has been created about the number of confirmed cases, which has not been clarified, he pointed out that he cannot say who was the hierarch who found positive. “Only he can announce that,” he said.
