The Three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki sentenced the two tenants of the apartment, in which foreign students participated in a party, to 2 years and 2 months in prison, despite prohibitive measures to limit the pandemic.
The two defendants, also students, a 24-year-old Palestinian and a 21-year-old French woman, were tried in a spontaneous proceeding, after the prosecutor for the criminal prosecution had previously accused them of violating the measures on infectious diseases.
The sentence was suspended for 3 years, while the court imposed an additional fine of 200 euros. In addition to its fine, ELAS confirmed an administrative fine of 3,000 euros.
Police were notified on Friday evening after calls from locals to ‘Immediate Action’, while a search was being conducted at the Velissariou street apartment in the Triandria area. As it became known, in addition to the tenants, the party was attended by 15 other young people, all students from various European countries residing in Thessaloniki, who participated in a student exchange program. The police also fined them 300 euros.
