The Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias, referred to the measures that will be implemented in schools from September 14.
During the periodic briefing on the coronavirus, Hardalias announced that a JMC will be issued in the next few hours on how schools, enrollment centers, language centers and libraries will operate.
Regarding the use of a mask, he recalled that it is mandatory for students indoors and outdoors where there is congestion, while he stressed that due to the pandemic there will be no excursions, school tournaments and student exchanges, among others.
Mr Hardalias added that canteen staff must meticulously apply hygiene rules and that only packaged food and beverages should be available. Students must keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters from each other while waiting in the lunch line.
He also reiterated that “there is no punishment for anything”, simply “students without a mask will not be allowed in.”
Regarding tutoring centers and language centers, these will function according to the rules that will also be applied in the school units.
Our goal, as Mr. Hardalias said, is to protect students, teachers and parents, in general the entire educational community.
Wearing a mask
In particular, regarding the use of a mask is mandatory for students, teachers in all classes, as well as the rest of the staff.
The use of a non-medical mask is mandatory in all indoor areas of school units, as well as outside when there is overcrowding, such as when arriving and leaving school, as well as in case of overcrowding in the outdoor canteens, as well as in between. student transportation.
The treating physician may recommend the use of the surgical mask over the cloth mask for children with underlying conditions.
Students with cognitive, developmental, mental, or behavioral disorders, as well as students with severe neurological, muscular disorders that prevent them from operating the mask, who normally attend school after providing the necessary justifications, are excluded from the mandatory use of non-medical masks.
For the protection of the school community there are no field trips, educational visits, student conferences, school tournaments and exchange programs for students and teachers.

Canteens
The following applies to the operation of dining rooms:
- The staff must meticulously apply the general rules for cleaning, disinfection of premises and personal hygiene.
- Staff should take general precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, such as abstinence from work in case of fever or other symptoms compatible with Covid-19, wearing a protective mask indoors and outdoors when crowded.
- The use of a protective mask and gloves is mandatory while working in the dining room.
- Canteens should only have food and liquids packaged or prepared by the canteen prior to disposal in individual packages protected with suitable material.
- Students must maintain a distance of 1.5 meters while waiting and being served by the cafeteria.
- In indoor dining rooms, a mask should always be worn while waiting.
- It is mandatory to have an alcoholic hand sanitizer next to the canteen counter, which can be used by the students.
Tutoring centers and foreign languages
As for the operation of teaching centers, foreign language centers, providers and training activities and all kinds of related structures, it is carried out based on the rules of operation of school units.
