Close even during the Christmas holidays, epidemiologists put a proposal on the table since the situation with the coronavirus does not develop as the government would like.
The decision to extend the quarantine, even tightening these strict measures that will take effect on Friday, is clearly political.
However, according to the information, with the existing epidemiological data, it becomes impossible for the country to “open” on November 30, when the three-week closure ends.
The proposal that has been presented, and based on the data of the cases, but mainly on the resilience of the SEN, is the extension for another two weeks of isolation.
That is to say, the prohibition of night traffic, SMS, and of course the universal use of the mask, the bans on traveling outside the prefectures, the lock in stores.
They want the government to see results of the measures that came into force last Saturday, but also of what was announced for tomorrow.
If there is a decongestion of the hospitals, the cases are significantly reduced and there are not many deaths, then the business could be opened little by little so as not to miss the Christmas period where losses increase.
However, as scientists point out, there is no way that we will see restaurants, bars or clubs open during the holidays because the people who go there cannot be controlled.
The worst scenario, depending on the evolution of the pandemic, is to make Christmas in absolute quarantine.
That is, no movement, not even in the homes of relatives.
Of course, measures like open schools are being re-evaluated. The government wants that education is not closed and in fact there is a discussion to open secondary schools and high schools from the beginning of December.
Of course, it all depends on how the pandemic hits Greece. And of course it is not ruled out that some areas of the country will be “open” conditionally, and the “red” ones will remain in quarantine, as at the moment Thessaloniki and Athens.
It is recalled that yesterday, in statements to Mega, the government spokesman, Stelios Petsas, did not rule out the possibility of extending the confinement in December.
In order not to need to tighten or broaden the measures, Mr. Petsas appealed to the “Greek philotimes” to comply with the existing measures.
Of course, everything will depend on the results of next week and if there is a remission of the pandemic.
And the scientists say
The extension of the quarantine is confirmed as a scenario by scientists who have been managing the health crisis and submitting proposals for so long.
Yesterday, Professor Alkiviadis Vatopoulos gave several opportunities to extend the confinement in our country, which however will be determined by various factors and not only by the cases.
The microbiology professor spoke to SKAI stating that the regime may be extended, and many in Thessaloniki, however, stated that this will be seen next week, which will largely decide whether there will be a decision to extend the shutdown.
Professor and Infectious Diseases Committee member Charalambos Gogos confirmed the scenario that an extension is not ruled out.
“See and do,” said the professor, adding that the coronavirus became more contagious.
According to Mr. Gogos, the effects of the dispersion will be seen next week, as the increase in cases has to do with the incubation time. Then there will be a recession in the number of cases.
To end the block, the cases must fall below 1000. Additionally, Rt must fall below 1.
