The impressive difference between the northern and southern parts of the country in the spread of the coronavirus is reflected in the new EODY map with the epidemiological burden of all areas since the start of the pandemic last March.
This map shows, as has emerged from the paintings presented by the recent “To Vima” period, an almost one-sided coronavirus load from almost all the prefectures of northern Greece.
In contrast, the southern part of the country, bordering the Magnesia, Karditsa and Arta prefectures, appears to have extremely fewer cases.
With significant differentiation only in Attica where again, as noted, the number of cases taking into account its population is less than 600 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in recent months, which is behind almost all the prefectures of central Macedonia, Thrace and others.
The situation in Greece
The words of the Minister of Health, Vassilis Kikilias, during today’s briefing are indicative. As noted by the Minister of Health, one in three Thessaloniki residents who undergo the test are positive for the coronavirus. As he has underlined, the dispersion in co-capital “is enormous.”
Indicative, no, are the data on the spread of the virus in our country, published today by EODY. According to these, of the 2,384 cases announced by the National Public Health Organization in the last 24 hours, 652 were registered in Thessaloniki.
On the other hand, Attica is also on alert with 588 cases.

Thus, the total number of cases is 60,570, of which 54.2% are men, while 4,510 (7.4%) are considered related to travel from abroad and 16,382 (27.0%) are related to a case already known.
According to the current report of the competent organization, the number of patients intubated in the ICU, in particular, amounts to 263, a figure that is a new record. It is observed that their average age is 66 years, and that 71 (27.0%) are women and the rest are men. It is added that 86.3% of intubated patients have an underlying disease or are 70 years or older.
Finally, we had 41 more deaths recorded and 866 deaths in total in the country. 351 (40.5%) women and the rest men. The mean age of our deceased fellow citizens was 79 years and 96.5% had an underlying disease and / or were 70 years or older.
The ages of the patients
From the corresponding table in the EODY report (see below), it appears that 4 of the intubated were between the ages of 18 to 39 years.
Another 111 patients on mechanical support come from the age group of 40 to 64 years.
