Koronaios: how Kozani got into a lockdown – why he hasn’t sounded the alarm for Attica yet

With Kozani becoming the first region in Greece to be alerted 4 (“Increased Risk”), all eyes are now on Attica, where at least half of coronavirus cases are detected daily.

Although EKPA Medical School professor and Expert Committee member Gikas Majorkinis spoke about stabilization of cases during Tuesday’s briefing, Attica is the most tested region with 207 out of 453 cases on Thursday. At the same time, the death toll is rising rapidly, setting a record since the beginning of the pandemic, and the situation in urban centers is more difficult to manage.

For Kozani, the decision may have been immediate, but the government seems reluctant to impose a blockade on the basin, which is also the economic center of the country. According to information from MEGA, the lockdown measure at Attica is of course on the table, if deemed necessary. On the other hand, for the moment, the panorama at the political level is that the second wave of the pandemic is being adequately addressed, which is attributed to the prudence of the majority of citizens.

Citizens, however, seem divided on the severity of the measures, according to a survey by Marc. Although the majority are in favor of wearing the mask in all areas, in the evaluation of the measures for the coronavirus, 39.2 % believe that they are “what should be” but 35.6% believe that “they should be made more strict”.

There is also division in the scientific community, globally, in fact, on whether or not to apply the blockade. There are many who follow the position of the World Health Organization and are in favor of the blockade regarding a “morally and scientifically problematic” herd immunity. Other scientists, however, favor the protection of the economy and consider the blockade as a last resort.

The government is following in the footsteps of the rest of the EU, avoiding general roadblocks and traffic bans like those imposed in France.

“This success is attributed to all the Greek men and women who follow the measures recommended by experts and implemented by the government,” Stelios Petsas said this morning.

He called on people to continue implementing the current measures, to avoid taking new ones, something that government officials constantly repeat.

Petsas: Still no lock on Attica

Government spokesman Stelios Petsas has ruled out, at least for the moment, a shutdown in Attica. “At the moment there is no such possibility for Attica,” he said characteristically, speaking tonight in the main ANT1 news bulletin.

He clarified that the government is following the experts’ recommendations, reiterated that local lockdowns will be imposed, where there are outbreaks, and again urged citizens to strictly implement the measures.

“As the Prime Minister has said, when we go to the European Council today, we are ready at all times to follow the advice of the experts and impose if necessary a local blockade, where the statistics, according to all the data and instructions that we receive del “Europe, from the respective organizations with ours, recommend that we have such measures,” said Mr. Petsas.

However, he added that Greece is in a better position than other European countries, emphasizing that “to maintain this we must close the cases locally, as in Kozani and in general, throughout the country, so we are implementing the many measures that we have already done. taken “.

Finally, he made special reference to the measures announced by France, saying that “it is a typical bell for all of us” to add that “we understand that we must take care of what we have in Greece.”

Kozani – Alalum with schools in quarantine since Friday

Local lockdown was imposed at the Kozani Regional Unit due to the increased risk (level 4) of coronavirus transmission.

Nikos Hardalias explained why restrictive measures were considered necessary in the region: “Our decision was based on the highest levels of the accumulated number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in a period of 14 days that exceeded the criterion adopted by the EU, the continuous daily growth the number of new cases, the wide dissemination of evidence-based cases in the community, the more than 220 active cases and their 554 close contacts in isolation, but also the dozens of small controlled, but dangerous and spatially scattered groups in the whole area ».

The emergency measures will be valid from 6 a.m. on Friday, October 16 until the 29th of the month. The category of alarm level 4 – Increased risk provides for the mandatory use of a mask in all indoor and outdoor workplaces, the suspension of all meetings in public and private spaces, as well as the prohibition of movement outside the Regional Unit by Kozani.

A problem has arisen with the issue of the operation of the schools, as it is mentioned in the announcement of the GGP that they will remain open normally with the mandatory use of masks everywhere. On the contrary, for Higher Education Institutions (IES) only teleeducation will be applied. According to kozan.gr, citizens ask local authorities to suggest the “lock” in schools.

In relation to the operation of the following: public services, private companies, transportation, food stores (for example, supermarkets, mini-markets, bakeries, butchers, fishmongers), public markets, places of worship / religious ceremonies, hospitals, hospitals, Centers , nursing homes, centers for the chronically ill, structures and shelters for vulnerable groups, transitional shelters for the homeless, social structures for the immediate treatment of poverty (dormitories, nurseries, social groceries, public pharmacies, public pharmacies), public pharmacies , Camps, Driver Training Activities and Vehicle Technical Inspection Services, the provisions of the Official Gazette, Edition B, 4484 / 11-10-2020 apply.
