Koronaios: health system is under pressure, hospitals are in the red

[ad_1]

The moments for the country’s hospitals are dramatic as the outbreak of the pandemic and the exponential increase in cases reduce ICU beds, the availability of doctors and the ability to provide care to patients to a minimum. Already on Tuesday, the number of intubated ICU patients infected with coronavirus reached 102 for the first time.

Their average age is 65. Of these, 33 (32.4%) are women and the rest are men. 96.1% of intubated patients have an underlying disease or are 70 years or older.

Surgeries are postponed

In some areas of Greece, the number of patients admitted with coronavirus in public hospitals is so large that any other provision of nursing services to other patients is now canceled. Scheduled surgeries are postponed, exam appointments are canceled, emergencies are left in the hallways. There are hospitals that send patients, wounded to other hospitals.

The fear of experts is great. If the pandemic outbreak is not contained, hospitals will be thrown into chaos.

Thessaloniki hospitals are on its borders

Shortly before “red” is Thessaloniki, as Covid hospitalizations in city hospitals have increased significantly. As an indication, data from AHEPA, where coronavirus hospitalizations have increased by 350% in the last 10 days, while there is a 40% decrease in planned surgeries. At the same time, in “Papanikolaou” where in the ICU there is an increase of 100% of the patients treated there.

As stated by the professor of infectious diseases, Sotiris Tsiodras, “ICUs in Thessaloniki covered 10% a few days ago. Today it has exceeded 50%. “This is an indication that the system is under increasing pressure.”

Therefore, the “Agios Pavlos” hospital will become a reference hospital for the coronavirus. At the same time, in Athens, the number of patients in need of treatment is increasing, while dozens of suspected cases arrive daily at hospitals for examination.

Patient admissions are a record

The last few days’ imports are breaking one record after another. In large hospitals, beds fill up quickly. A typical example is Thriasio, where clinics are full and cases are transferred to other hospitals.

In Evangelism, only 15 empty beds remain, as 75 patients are treated with symptoms of the disease, while the Sotiria clinics with 90 patients are full. In Gennimatas, however, 23 of the 31 beds in the Koroniou clinic are occupied.

Clinics are closed to become COVID

Hospital administrations are forced to close clinics and turn them into covid, as many of those who are positive now need treatment. The biggest problem is faced by hospitals in the region.

In Kastoria, 12 patients are treated with coronary artery. The pathology was closed to give beds exclusively to patients with symptoms of the virus. The Ptolemaida and Kozani hospitals are on its borders, while in Ioannina’s Hatzikosta an additional 24 beds were delivered for coronavirus cases, as Ioannina is affected by the virus outbreak.

Day by day, the number of beds in the intensive care unit is decreasing. Attica faces the most pressure, but now ICU beds in regional hospitals are being filled one by one.

Call for compliance with protection measures

It is characteristic that the Deputy Minister of Health, Vassilis Kontozamanis, called everyone to observe with respect the protection measures against the coronavirus, in order to help the Health system to resist to face the pandemic.

“The forces of the NSS are not inexhaustible and there is a red line.” However, as he said, “we have time ahead of us, but no matter how prepared the health system is, no matter how many measures we have taken to strengthen it and prepare it even more, if we do not observe the measures imposed by the State, then I believe the result it will not be the desired one. “

They are asking for help from neighboring countries

Mr. Kontozamanis reiterated that since the beginning of the pandemic, the health system has been prepared to face “unfavorable development” and “worst-case” measures are being taken. However, “there is a point which is the red line.” In fact, the undersecretary cited the Netherlands as an example, which has started and asks Germany for help, noting that “even the most modern states have limited capacities and powers.”

“We are doing the work we have to do, we are preparing, we are redeploying forces, we are close to the limit, our forces are not inexhaustible, but in any case we must adhere to the measures, we still have time to face it successfully.” said the Undersecretary.

ICU beds in Attica

Today in Attica, as Mr. Kontozamanis mentions, there are 144 beds available for coronavirus, the coverage is around 58% and this percentage has been fluctuating in recent days. Ten days ago, the ICU beds available for covid-19 in Attica were 122, “so what we say and it is true, is that we reposition our forces according to the evolution of the disease,” he concluded.

Athena Linou, Professor of Epidemiology, spoke about the developments on the Corona virus front.

“I think things are very serious. We are already experiencing an exponential increase in cases that can increase even more if new measures are not added. Additional measures belong to the State that will facilitate the observance of the measures. We are talking about wearing a mask in the most of the country inside and out. It would be good to expand throughout Greece, “said Ms Linou speaking to MEGA.

There is a real problem

The professor, member of the Infectious Diseases Committee, Charalambos Gogos, also expressed concern about the pressure on the health system.

He first emphasized that by the end of December there will probably be approvals of some of the vaccine platforms and initially vaccinations of the health ones will be done, while he pointed out that it will take at least about a year for there to be full immunity.

However, Mr. Gogos expressed concern about the pressure on the health system, noting that the number of patients in the clinics is approaching 1,000, while in Ioannina there is pressure in the covid clinics (not in the units) . As he explained, as long as it is necessary to open the coronavirus clinics, the system is taking the rest. “There really is a problem that needs to be addressed,” he told SKAI.

In Attica, 70% -75% of ICUs are already covered

The concern of the committee of experts and the Government does not cease in the constant increase in cases of coronavirus that are registered daily in our country. It is indicative that, as Matina Pagoni, president of EINAP, pointed out, in Attica 70% -75% of the ICU is already covered.

When asked if the situation is gone, he said that it is still under control, however, the NSS alarm has been sounding since November 20, when the various viruses will appear.
