The Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, Nikos Hardalias, pointed out during the information session on the coronavirus that “our country is facing a significant increase in cases that do not allow complacency.”

However, he said that Greece has fewer cases than other European countries such as Ireland, Belgium and Portugal.

According to the data available to EODY and GGPP, in our country there are currently 5,379 active cases in Greece.

As for schools, the operation of 10 school units was suspended until Sunday, while departments have been closed in 113 schools. Indicative of the epidemiological burden that Attica has is the fact that 93 of the 123 schools where a case of coronavirus has been detected are located in Athens.

The general panorama of the cases in our country

At 39 the cases in Laconia

Regarding the outbreak of cases registered in the municipality of Evrota in Laconia, Mr. Hardalias highlighted that 39 infections have been registered in a total of 805 tests performed on foreign land workers. He stressed that the cases have been isolated, they are under medical supervision in a special area, while their contacts are in self-isolation at home.

In addition, it was announced that all agricultural workers in the area (approximately 1,300 people) will be tested, as well as the mandatory use of masks indoors and outdoors. These people must be out of work, while their movements will be controlled.

For the residents of the Municipality of Evrotas, tests will be carried out on those who cooperate or have come into contact with positive land workers, while the use of a mask inside becomes mandatory.

Special measures for vulnerable groups in the municipality of Atenas

Mr Hardalias also announced a series of specific measures for the City of Athens:

  • The eight Friendship Clubs of the Municipality will be transformed into small centers where diagnostic tests will be carried out.
  • Rapid tests will continue in the congested areas of central Athens.
  • Rapid test at the Multipurpose Center for the Homeless and the Center for drug addicts.
  • Strengthen street work with more nurses
  • Two new temporary isolation structures for people addicted to substances and for people belonging to vulnerable and vulnerable groups, who have tested positive for the virus.

Scenarios for new measures

Commenting on the information on the adoption of new restrictions, Hardalias pointed out that the issue is not constantly talking about new measures, but rather implementing the measures that have been taken.

Commenting on the shooting against the government due to the process of tracking cases that is being followed, Mr. Hardalias stated that “the tracking that is being carried out is exhaustive. “When we don’t know where a case is coming from, we take stricter spatial planning measures.”

Finally, he reported that quarantine hotels will be used to house asymptomatic patients and receive the necessary care, with the aim of decongesting hospitals.
